CARROT Weather App Reviews

Great!

Accurate forcasts and funny! All you could want in a CARROT weather app!

Crashes Frequently both technically and in terms of failed attempts at humor

I fail to see why so many rate this app highly. I do not encounter a lot of issues with app crashes on my late-2013 27” iMac running the most current up to date version of OS X El Capitan as of this writing. However, this app does randomly crash fairly often when I access it to view the weather. Just now I discovered an easily reproducible crash here that I sent in the reports for. So I hope it helps them to fix the problem. All I have to do is click on the button to view future weather, select tomorrow’s date which happens to be March 17th as i write this and BOOM. It crashes every time. I restart the app, do the same steps, crash - repeatedly. The one time I tried to have the app share its forecast it also crashed then. Also, most times it starts up, Siri’s voice that it uses begins with distortion and is garbled briefly and then finishes up what it began to say okay. This happens every time on startup here. I want to stress again that I rarely have any problems with this system at all. I love it. It works great. Most of my apps work just great but this one ain’t so great. My other issue with this app is the rather uneven attempts at humor. It has at times made me smile. More often than not though it tends to make me groan and on one occasion even managed to offend me with an inappropriate remark about death. I think that’s in very poor taste where it is entirely possible that someone in ill health could choose an app like this to hopefully brighten their day a little. You might think I am just being silly, overly sensitive or whatever but I guess my view just comes from being a nurse for many years and seeing so many people who are terminally ill, suffering, dying, dead, etc. So to me, making light of that in a weather app, predicting your own death is coming soon in a very flat matter of fact delivery is just really bad. I heard and I saw it and I thought what was supposed to be funny here? Honestly, I really did. I’m fine but I worry about who else might see that who could be hurt by it for real. Some things, you don’t make jokes about to a random unknown audience. Announcing that in such a serious tone with zero punchline to lighten it up at all is really terrible when the very real chance exists that someone terminally ill could have this app. I don’t know what they were thinking of. There was just nothing funny there at all. There really wasn’t. It made me wonder is the software written by a 20 something person who has not yet outgrown their teenage sense of immortality and so would not even consider what I just mentioned here. Honestly, one has to be pretty easily amused to find this amusing in my opinion. It’s a nifty idea but they probably should bring somebody onboard with actual talent in the area of comedy rather than relying on software developers to come up with their own decidedly amateur efforts which detract from this app’s potential. Am I being a hard case about this? Maybe but I don’t think so. I am just being honest. I love to laugh and have fun. I consider it good medicine to be sure. I’m not that hard to please, honestly I am not but this app just plain fails at this as far as I am concerned. So I guess I’ll just hope this is seen as a potential voice of reason here in a sea of 5 star reviews this just does not deserve either technically or otherwise. I don’t hesitate to rate good apps accordingly and I have mostly been fortunate in picking winners. This one needs major work. I hope it gets it. It could be great. I could be so much better than it currently is. How this got to be an Apple Editor’s Choice is beyond me.

Multiple issues

Purchased this app today, 2016-03-22, and it’s got several issues: 1.) Not automatically finding location via wireless or wired—after enabling location to be determined. Have to manually set location, and it only seems to be able to connect briefly before it goes back to the “secret” location it uses when it can’t find where you are, or before it... 2.) Crashes. 3.) Does not display the temp (or change when you change the settings in the dropdown) in the menu bar. 4.) Does not show the temperature in the taskbar icon when selected either. Just getting a bang on it.

Amusing app with some added features

Most weather apps don’t have alerts for rain starting, except for Dark Sky, which mainly only does precipitation. This app does general weather forecasting, immediate precipitation forecaasting, and is snarky, all at the same time.

Just stop! Devote yourself to develop a great APP and people will notice.

Some jokes are just stupid and not funny

Since when is skin cancer funny? Come on, get a clue.

Wish I had my money back.

This app is silly. For the cost, I was expecting something much more. Dumb. Wish I had my money back.

Can’t perform minimum functions.

very simply, the forecast varies consistently from other sources for my location. worse, the whole point of the application was to get a quick at-a-glance check from the menu bar, but it frequently loses the network connection and, unlike just about every other application, can’t seem to reconnect without me having to open the Full Weather Window and waiting 5-10 seconds. huge fail.

Fun but weirdly pricey.

CARROT Weather can be fun in it’s own way but really shouldn’t cost more than $5. I don’t really understang where they justify the cost on this one. I like the attitude that app has but the actual display of information is lacking quite a bit too. It tends to be a bit hard to navigate when you actually want to know, ya know, the weather forecast. Plus it adds up a lot if you want to get into the whole ecowsystem for iPhone, AppleWatch (additional fees), and AppleTV. I can’t say that it at all feels worth it. I might change my mind if they work on a better presentation for the actual data.
